Diary of a bad writer – Week 50

Timer

Monday, September 16th, 6:00pm – Writing is coming a little slow this week so I’m testing an app the shows a stopwatch on my laptop to keep me focused. Id like to get in two hours of writing time every day. If I need a break, I can stop the timer for a while. The goal is to get in two hours writing , however long it takes.

By the end of the day, I want to say – YES, I DID IT!

I did it

This is a great way to work towards your goal of 2 hours of daily writing! I saw that author Angie Thomas unplugs her laptop and writes until her battery dies. My battery lasts far too long for me to even attempt that 😅 My attention span could never make it that long!

Yes, it seems everyone has some variation of this method. It’s working for me. Got one hour done already. 🤗

I like the idea of a stopwatch app on my laptop. I’ve been using my phone, but sometimes I forget it in another room.

Does it help you? So far everyone has mixed feelings on its use.

Absolutely, doesn’t matter how long it takes and I think you can do it with breaks to help you refocus and get in the zone. The stopclock on your computer is a cool idea! YOU CAN DO IT, Darnell!

Two hours is great! I have two toddlers so I can’t ever get in a good amount of writing in all at once, but back in my pre-children day I found timers to be helpful in keeping my racing mind focused and would write hours at a time. Now I write whenever the kiddos are distracted, which is two to five minutes scattered throughout the day. Best of luck to you and your writing!

Thank you so much! My distractions aren’t as blessed as yours, but I should be able to get in 2 hrs if I start in the morning and end at bedtime.🤗

I think the timer would be too distracting for me. I prefer setting a timer on my phone and not stopping until it goes off. 2h is a lot, though. I don’t think I could fit that in. Good luck!

I get distracted a lot, so I’m trying for 2 hrs by the end of the day. Still testing…

I think the timer would hinder my creative flow, causing to much anxiety to write.

It would cause anxiety for me if it were an employment requirement. No stress, since I control it.😉
