January 15th – Some time after work… and a glass of wine
After reading a bloggers horror story I wanted to add my critique. He was very receptive to my email. That got me thinking: He is in the same group of people I’m in. We want honest opinions of our work so we can get better at our craft. That’s the group I’m proud to be in. I hope my followers are too.

I appreciate the thought. I see how the animal/human ability to learn can be hampered by negative reinforcement. This is the sole reason I try to critique with kindness and hope others do the same with me. True, your non-fiction post is ripe with fiction possibilities… If I pen something, I will mention where I got the inspiration.

Honest opinions are tough, but so useful, whether they lead to us making changes or not. It informs us about the psychology of our potential audience.

Good point. I always think that constructive criticism helps you to improve, while empty praise just buffs the ego. Harsh but true, though usually they go hand in hand (praise for the positive elements; honest, useful criticism of the areas to improve upon).xx
