Listen to that heart ♥ of yours, it’s pretty spot on! Write for you, but the other part of my brain says if you want your work read it’s not a bad idea to consider who will likely read it and who your audience is, but to a lesser extent.
Hope you’re keeping as well as possible, Darnell – Happy Friday! x

Go with your heart, follow your inspiration, Darnell. 🙂 You’re a butterfly like me, flitting around the genre garden. We’ll eventually settle, I think 😉

I say write what inspires you. The rest will fall into place if it is meant to be.

Thank you. That seems to be the most popular advice.

I think you will get as many different advice as there are people.
Personally, I am surprised to see that people read books based on the author and not the content of the book. As much as I can be loyal in other aspects of my life, books are books and not authors to me. If you wrote something I’d be interested in, I’d read it. If I wasn’t, then I wouldn’t. But I know that is not the case for all.
People from the industry say to stick to one genre. Or to dabble in more than one, but publish under a different name. I’d like to be known for ALL my work. Not just some, so to me, that sounds weird.
I, myself, like to write varied stuff and I plan to keep it that way for now.

The advice is varried. I see books kinda like you. If I like it I read it. When it comes to author’s, I may buy a book based on a writing style I like. For now, I’m focusing on what I like to write. Those stories will determine what I’m best at in the long run.
Thank you Goldie for your input.

You make a valid point. While some people might have a preferred genre they like to write, some of us would like to write more than one. We won’t actually know if we like it/ are good at it until we try.

I say establsih your footprint in one style first, build an audience and then venture into something else you like. Writers have to establish their voice writing what they know best.
my two cents anyway.
