City Of Bridges

My writing group came up wth this sci-fi type image. Here’s my short story about it.

The misty fog ran thick in the Veridian Strait. The water, dark blue and black, was a churning highway. Sky boats, touring tugs, filled the waterway going to and fro. Corporate yachts zipped between the other vessels, carrying commuters to nearby islands. Water taxis weaved through the traffic, their wakes causing foam bubbles against the hulls of the City of Bridges.

The City of Bridges stretched across the waterway like a colossal, intricate web. Not one, not two, but dozens of bridges, each a marvel of engineering and artistry, towered over the waterway. Like the strings of a violin, the city vibrated with people eating, drinking, and shopping in city cabins.

Looking down from any of the high vantage points, the City of Bridges complemented the story of the Veridian Strait, a living, breathing artery. Its currents mirrored the ceaseless flow of life across the City of Bridges, a testament to the world as people of all nations claim connection to the futuristic watery world.

Glorious and imposing, and so interesting, but am I wondering whether there is a dark side as well, perhaps?

In all good, there lies a bit of darkness. Maybe we will see that in a part 2… 🤔Thanks Chris.

Darnell, I like this a lot. I think I could have envisioned the City of Bridges from your description even without the prompting image. I especially appreciated this line: “Like the strings of a violin, the city vibrated with people eating, drinking, and shopping in city cabins,” and the closing paragraph. Very nicely done!
