This page is dedicated to Sonequa Martin-Green, the first woman of color to play the lead in a Star Trek Franchise. Each month I will explore things about the fascinating character they call Michael Burnham.Whats in a name? Disco or STD? I decided to answer this question while informing Non-Trekkers what the Discovery series is about.
Star Trek Discovery is an American futuristic science fiction adventure series. Its theme is to “boldly go where no man has gone before.” The series lives up to its theme by discovering new planets and lifeforms and living together in peace with all beings. (note that the series is currently in a war that we did not start. hopefully, it will soon be resolved) Humans have learned to treat everyone equal and with respect. Modern medicine has removed disease while technology solved hunger problems. Currency is not important in this world. Technology provides for every want, without capital or need of labor. The last Star Trek TV series ended in 2005. This new series started in 2017 and was created for CBS ALL ACCESS, a pay per view site.
So…Now you know what Star Trek: Discovery is. Next, we need an acronym to describe this series from all the others. Humm, I wonder what it should be?
An older series was called Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. That’s a mouthful. Trekkers simply call it DSN. What are Trekkers calling Star Trek: Discovery? New fans are calling it…yep…DISCO. I like the name and so do the actors, as portrayed in these scenes. The official abbreviation for Star Trek: Discovery is DSC. Learning a lot today, aren’t we? With this knowledge, (and a CBS All Access subscription) you can be a Trekkie if you desire. Just don’t call the series Star Trek: STD. After all, we live in the future. Those things have been eliminated.
Yes! Nichelle Nichols was a trail blazer on TOS. (The Original Star Trek)
