January 7th, 8:30pm. – I pull out some unfinished stories from 2015. Man O’ man, has my writing changed since then. Question is, what to do with these now? What comes to mind is a quote from one of my favorite writers:
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.”
– Octavia E. Butler
January 7th, 8:50pm. – Decided to update and finish these stories to my new writing style. Persistence. A motivating drive force… to perfect.

Love that quote. Writing is such a tedious process but you have some great talent!

Stepping away and returning with fresh eyes makes all the difference regardless of what’s being written 🙂 I did this in college, when I had lengthy papers.

It’s a good idea. That works for me at least half the time. The other half, I can’t hack and chop the stories up enough to do anything with them. Scary !! But yeah, SOME of them inspire other ideas and different approaches.
Octavia’s one of my favorite authors too. I was in shock when she died. As far as I know, it was some kind of accident from a fall. Too soon. Too *young*!
She’s still a huge inspiration for me. RIP.
