Diary of a bad writer – Week 79

Diary of a bad writer banner

July 7th, lunchtime at work – While reading some of my flash fiction for more ideas, I realized from comments that some readers actually like my work.  Going forward, I will not worry if the writing is good. I will not worry if the writing is read. I will STOP comparing my writing to others. I will be proud that I am a writer. You should be too.

Darnell, I LOVE this reminder from you. One of the worst things we can do is compare our anything against someone else. I love the quote from Steven Furtick that says, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” — How true is that? Each of us is uniquely gifted in our own way. Your voice is no less important than anyone else’s.

By all means, be proud of your writing! You should be. Keep on with the amazing work you do. ♥

Thank you Holly for your support. It took awhile to believe and post that reminder. But it’s true. I thought my writing interview would be passed over, since Patrick interviews actors, and film directors. It turned out I was shown the same respect for what I do as they. Steven Furtick is right. We all have our own gifts. 🤗

This is such an important reminder! We tend to start comparing with others instead of looking at our progress by seeing where we improved in our own rights. Thanks!

You’re welcome 😊 I’m helping myself and others as I learn about this thing called writing.

Nice plan, when you’re not focusing on all the scary things around you, and focus on your writing, you just get better and better until you are what you want to be! Cheers to just writing.

    You do you. For real!
I started my CW pieces to motivate myself to write. And then people started reading. Imagine the shock! Some would even say they enjoyed it or wanted more. It really helped build up my confidence.
Sometimes, I post a story that I know isn’t “perfect.” Why? For the same reason I started all this – MYSELF.
I truly appreciate everyone’s feedback and hope to use it to better my craft. But some days, our stories will be lacking. That’s ok. Just keep going. Stay golden!

The best way to be. If you enjoy your work, other people will enjoy reading your work, too. I remember hearing that you can’t write a bad book, as it takes time to write a book so even a bad book is good in terms of the time it takes. I am sure if you put the time in to write you are already doing more than most!! Keep it up 🙂

I’m glad you’ve come to this realisation and I hope you can hold on to it if ever you get doubts or find the pressure piling up. I’m sorry that it’s almost surprised you to learn that readers actually like your work. I’d hoped you knew this already. We don’t like your work, Darnell. We LOVE it. You’re a talented writer who excels with creativity and puts heart onto the pages (or the screen, if you will). Enjoy the process without the pressure because you’re already brilliant at what you do. And you better believe me mr, because I’m always right 😉

Thank you Caz. As humans we continually doubt ourselves. Sometimes it takes kindness from another person to stop the flow of doubt. I appreciate the encouragement. I know it’s sincere. Be well, stay safe, and Visible. 🥰

I get inspired by reading your writing,Darnell…..its so damn good and fresh. And you can write a good ending something a more famous writer still can’t do.

Tut tut, Darnell. Of course you writing is good! We love your short stories… and you’ve been published. That’s a true vindication of your abilities.
I guess we might strive to achieve the beauty of the prose of some of our favourite writers, but all writers are different and each tells their stories in a different and special way. Keep writing, keep smiling and keep safe 🙂
P.S. How are Amy and her vampire hunters?
