A quote came to mind from Chris Grosser: “Opportunities Don’t Happen, You Create Them.”
I had that quote in mind when I wrote a short story based on a subplot in a series called “Candy” on the Hulu network. While I watched this crime drama, an idea came to me to expand on a short scene about a foster child. He was placed in a loving home with two parents and a young girl soon to be his sister. The placement didn’t work out, and the series moved on to another plot point, but I wanted more story about that foster child…So I wrote my own.
After watching the series, I created an opportunity to write fan fiction about that child. Writing inspiration can come from anywhere. For me, it was a TV series. Writers – take advantage of opportunities to express your writing ideas! More details on my flash fiction idea tomorrow!

I’ve not come across Candy before, so I’ll see if I can watch that somewhere. I love the quote because it’s so true and very empowering. Sure, sometimes opportunity and inspiration happens upon us out of nowhere when we least expect it. But sometimes we have to go get it ourselves, because there’s no ‘perfect’ time to wait for. There are some really engaging TV series out there these days that spark your imagination and get you thinking about other ways to look at it, other tangents to take. Looking forward to your piece, Darnell! I hope you’re keeping well my friend.
